DC Fashion Week is back! And this season, it’s celebrating its 20th anniversary with a French theme. From the runway to the red carpet, the big question is “should we expect to see plenty of nodes to Parisian staples?” We’re hopeful but as the French say “Je ne suis sûre”, so stay tuned. We will let you know..

Presented by Air France, we’re excited to see which designs take flight and what to look out for in terms of fashion trends for the DMV area. We’re mostly excited about seeing how the DCFW team interpolates French culture into the weekend.

Known for predominantly featuring local DMV based designers, DC Fashion Week also makes room for international fashion houses and has recently been listed on Forbes in a “coast-to-coast list of leading fashion weeks in the United States powering sustainable interconnected local fashion ecosystems“.

This years three day weekend of shows kick off with a must-attend industry networking party on Friday September 29, 2023, followed by the Emerging Designers Showcase and the Washington Menswear Collections show, on Saturday September 30, 2023 and it all wraps with the International Couture Collections show on Sunday October 1, 2023.

So, mark your calendars for September 29th through October 1st and get ready for a weekend of fashion and fun in the nation’s capital!

More Details

As with each DC fashion week, the shows kick off with a “must attend” industry networking party filled with the DC fashion community including models, designers, photographers, agencies, etc. The event is adult only (21+) and often “sells out” quickly (it’s a free event.. but registration is required to attend).

After the networking party, one of the most anticipated events of DC Fashion Week is the Emerging Designers Showcase, which will highlight ready-to-wear, streetwear, resort, and swimwear designers from the DMV area. These designers are sure to bring some fresh and innovative ideas to the runway, and we’re excited to see what they have in store.

Another must-see event is the Washington Menswear Collections show, which will feature the work of some of the most talented menswear designers in the country. From tailored suits to casual streetwear, there’s something for everyone at this show.

Of course, no DC Fashion Week would be complete without the International Couture Collections show. This show will feature the work of twelve fashion houses, including designers from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ukraine, and the United States. Expect to see everything from haute couture gowns to avant-garde evening wear.

No matter what your style is, you’re sure to find something to love at DC Fashion Week. So mark your calendars for September 29th through October 1st and get ready for a weekend of fashion and fun.

Here are some specific fashion trends that we can hope to see as DC Fashion Week celebrates France this year:

  • Berets: Berets are a classic French accessory that can be dressed up or down.
  • Trench coats: Trench coats are another French staple. They’re perfect for the fall weather and can be worn with anything from jeans to a dress.
  • Stripes: Stripes are a timeless pattern that is always in style.
  • Florals: Florals are a great way to add a touch of femininity to your outfit.
  • Pastels: Pastels are a soft and romantic color palette that is perfect for spring and summer.

Which designers can you expect to see at each show?
